Graphic Production Artist - Part Time (Chesterfield, MO)

We are looking for a Part Time Production oriented graphic designer to help out on an as-needed basis in our pre-press and copy machine department. We have both offset printing presses and color copy machines. For the presses, we use a direct to plate system, and need a person to be able to handle setting up jobs for that system as well.

Must be proficient in Mac and PC design programs, to include:
Adobe CS3 � Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop
Quark Express
Microsoft Publisher
Adobe Dreamweaver

Jobs are mostly simple design and type changes to existing files, and correct files from clients � taking them all the way through our Rip-it plate system, and preparing them for production. However, about 10-15% of the work is creative design work. Creative ability is secondary to the ability to produce speedy and accurate work. Our design department�s primary function is to support the print shop.

There are 3 primary job responsibilities. One is to be able to find an existing file in our archives, follow directions from a client to make simple changes to the file (such as typesetting a name on a business card), prepare a proof, and when the proof is approved, run that file through our Rip-it plate system, and then archive the file for future use. All this needs to be done with a minimum of errors. On a simple business card, I would expect close to 100% accuracy the first time.

The second part of the job is processing files we get from our 2 online sites. The clients send us their files, which are often wrong or filled with errors, and we need to correct those errors and get the job to press quickly.

The third part is running the color copiers.

I cannot promise any specific hours. Could range from a few hours to 40 hours a week. We currently have 2 people in this department, and this position will be used to fill in for vacations and when times get busy.

Hours of work can be from 8 am to midnight � depending on workload. We can be somewhat flexible on hours to work around your schedule if needed.

Job could grow into a full time job in the near future if a new program we are implementing takes off. If the job grows into 30 or more consistent hours, full benefits will be available. No promises.

I am looking for someone who is flexible, and will work around our needs.
If you are looking for a position to challenge your creative abilities, this is not it. We want a person who really enjoys basic typesetting and working with computer files, knows the programs in and out, and takes pride in doing things accurately the first time. The design work we do have is limited.
