You're so right dude! That was the best band in Stl for years. Now they suk, and the volume is unbearable - not just loud - UNbearable!!!! My ears were bleeding after I heard them at Westport. I recognized the sound guy from Guitar Center. Maybe we should go tell him!!!
As for Son of Starchild, I heard Steve who put the band together is actually a member of P-Funk & was touring with George Clinton a few years ago! Must have been his dream come true.
As for "Reggae at Will", I saw the bass player a while back w/a band that I think was called "Murder City players." One of the Keyboard players is w/a Reggae band on the Loop.

Sorry guys, but Dr. Z will probably have a lot to sell because they're not what they used to be (Sorry, Frank. You had a nice run, but I guess you burt out like Reggae at Will).

They were once a hot funk/disco band w/keys, real brass & back-up/lead female singers that everyone loved.
They even had the 70's funk garb. What a blast! So many of us loved that band & always looked where they were playing. We didn't just go to hear the music... it was a show!
BUT.......
They sold out to be a 3 piece guitar/bass/drums rock band with the one singer. LAME-O.
I can respect the excuse of a band trying to move from cover band to doing poor originals, but that only works if you stay the same set-up, because otherwise you're just starting a new band. It's like the Beatles becoming popular so they cut George and hire a piano player to make their first album.

Last time I saw Dr. Zhivegas, they played an entire set of 80's pop w/out a keyboard. 80's music is bad enough, but playing 80's music w/out a synth is like Prince playing basketball. Give it up.
The volume is also friggin' unbearable now. Did the the sound man go deaf? I know why.
Too bad, guys. My friends & I used to stand in line 20min at Harry's & fork over $7 to see a phenominal band (that's a LOT for a St. Louis cover band).
Now we hunt for a place where a real band is playing.

Band currently has three old guys and two pretty girls between 19 and 20 years old. We have three cool guitars, keyboards playa, loud drums, two male vocals, and two female vocals and a kazoo/jews harp player. We bought a caddy for our roadie. Well, not really a roadie, my mom.

I've been playing for about 2-3 years now. I have some decent gear and am willing to travel, but not too far. you can follow the link to hear an example of what we do. It is an old recording that the 2 guitarists made. There is a new drummer who is very fast and tight. 2 guitars with insane guitar solos and harmonies. There are more songs and it sounds much better now than on the recording, but its just to hear an example.

As far as the vocals are concerned we need someone who is very good. Perfect examples would be old Randy Blythe style, or new Black Dahlia Murder.

Someone who can do gutteral lows, and good high screams. Very raw and powerful.

In a Bassist we need someone very technical with the strings. The riffs and picking are very fast at times, and there is alot of movement and string switching on the Fretboard.

We have a few shows lined up with a fill in vocalist. Practice 1-2 times a week in south county. Plan to play shows every weekend possible and hopes of travel and touring later down the road.

Right now just looking for some cool guys, who can play their shit well and have time to practice and so a few shows here and there.

One of the ladies at our church has been involved for quite a long time working with churches and schools in Belize, Central America. Here are some items I am interested in, though any quality gear will be considered.... I am looking for an Epiphone Flamekat guitar in good condition and/or a small watt tube amp in good condition. Would also consider Mackie SRM 450 powered speakers or Mackie Powered subwoofers preferably the 15"models. I am also looking for a Glyph external hard drive (firewire) and Presonus preamps with ADAT optical out. I am also looking for an ADAT recorder.

I can also offer a medium size sound system for your gigs if needed, (which I or one of my associates will set up and run for $200) consisting of Mackie Mixer, 2 powered Mackie SRM 450s, 1 powered Mackie SRS 1500 sub, and 2 250 watt powered monitors plus more passive monitors if needed. Sm 58 & 57 microphones, Shure drum mics plus an AKG D-112 for the kick and stands included. This is a fantastic sounding system that really packs a powerful punch in a compact package!

Rocktown Radio is a show playing killer vintage hits from your daddy's album collection, along with skits and rants from DJ VVolf and Matt Von B.
