Just a word of warning if you use the Lincoln County Journal to advertise be aware that you will get charged to run ads in the Troy Free Press automatically, unless you tell them not too. So watch your bills or statements because you will be SOL.
It's really stinks that it is the only paper in town so you can't even write a letter to the editor regarding this matter.

If it is you or you know the person who this happened to, there is a SIDS support group that meets monthly. Many people have the same circumstances. It has really helped my husband and I live with our loss and I am happy to give the info to anyone interested. Please contact me if you want the specifics. I tried to contact you privately but you left no contact information.

A 42-year-old St. Peters man faces charges. Authorities say Eric Letford sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl at his mother's in home daycare.

"I think she just delayed saying anything until finally she felt like she needed to come forward and was concerned about whether the individual would have access to other children," said Jack Banas, St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney.

Authorities have been concerned about the same thing. According to court documents, Letford confessed to the one incident but no others.

He had lived with his parents at the site of the daycare.

According to the documents, four kids under the age of six currently go there. NewsChannel 5 spoke to the mother of two of them, who asked not to be identified. She said her experience with Letford's family has always been positive.

"They definitely were not aware of anything and are very upset over the whole ordeal and are trying to get through it as the rest of us are," she said.

The woman said she's known Letford for years and is devastated by the allegations. She hopes this is an isolated incident.

News of the arrest came as a shock to the entire neighborhood.

Karey Owens, who takes her children to a daycare down the street, said you can never be too cautious about who watches your kids. Make sure all adults in the house have background checks that are current and make sure they are never left alone with anyone besides who you have contracted with.

"I think really anytime you hear about somebody touching a kid or doing anything to harm someone who's innocent and really can't defend themselves you want bad things to happen to them," Owens said. "And I hope he gets what he's deserving."

Letford is being held on $40,000 bond.

Authorities are asking that anyone who may have information on this case to contact St. Peters Police at 636-278-2222.

//FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE//

LOCAL WOMAN HELPS OTHERS EMPOWER THEIR LOVE LIVES
“Slumber Parties”Becoming Quite Popular Throughout the St. Louis Area

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 1, 2008) — When Troy, Mo., resident April Shepherd was looking to fulfill her entrepreneurial dream, she never thought an intimate gathering at a friend’s house would give her the direction she needed.

The party was a gathering of female acquaintances that began as any other party would, casually conversation, generally about the men in their lives, over a glass or two of wine. That’s when the real fun began, and when Shepherd would find her calling.

The party was a “Slumber Party,” but one in which NO ONE sleeps over! One of the women at the party was a representative for Slumber Parties. Slumber Parties are an in-home party designed to empower and enhance their “love lives.”

The Slumber Party representative presented a collection of intimate objects such as bubble bath, massage oils, lingerie and bedroom accessories all aimed at spicing up a relationship. The women had a fantastic time, and were able to return home to their significant others as a new woman.

Shepherd was quickly hooked on the concept and in March 2008 began her own distributorship. Business has been booming ever since.

“After I went to one of the parties, I decided it was so fun and tastefully done that I had to become a personal consultant myself. As a wife and mother of two, it was a perfect opportunity for me because I could set my own hours. Plus, the personal satisfaction I get from helping other women improve their lives is immeasurable,” said Shepherd.

Founded in 1993, Slumber Parties, Inc., is a fast-growing, adult in-home party company. Through a network of independent distributors, we sell products designed to help women 18 and over enhance romance and sensual pleasure. Slumber Parties seek to empower women in every stage of life through our products, demonstrations and business opportunities. By clearly communicating with women, distributors help them build the confidence they need to reach personal and professional fulfillment.

For more information about Slumber Parties, contact April Shepherd at 636-299-7540 or April.Shepherd@slumberparties.com. You can visit Slumber Parties online at www.slumberparties.com.

Tamaris Announces Foot and Leg Ulcers Pose Significant Health Threat (St. Louis)

Americans are living longer, but living longer means our aging population is at greater risk for acquiring disease. For those with high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure, Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is of particular concern.

PAD, often described as “poor circulation,” is diagnosed when the large arteries of the leg narrow thereby restricting blood flow. The tissues then become starved of the blood, nutrients, and oxygen they need, and in its most advanced form, skin ulcers begin to develop. At this stage of PAD, called Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI), the health threat is serious.

The threat is so serious that it is difficult to grasp, but here are the facts: PAD at the stage of Critical Limb Ischemia presents the likelihood of amputation or even death. At this time, there are no prescription drugs available to effectively treat Critical Limb Ischemia, and there are limited treatments available that will delay or prevent amputation.

While these facts present a grim outlook, there is hope, thanks to a unique new opportunity. Catherine Wittgen, MD is currently conducting an investigational research study for PAD at the stage of Critical Limb Ischemia with foot and/or leg ulcers. It is anticipated that the investigational study medication may promote new blood vessel growth, and may delay the time to amputation and/or death.

The research study is currently seeking qualified participants. Individuals must be: 50 years of age or older with stable skin ulcers or non-infected gangrene on a foot or leg; diagnosed with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) at the stage of Critical Limb Ischemia; and be unsuitable for by-pass or revascularization. Additional criteria also apply.

If you or someone you know suffers with skin ulcers due to PAD at the stage of Critical Limb Ischemia, please call us to determine eligibility at 1-888-853-4656 . . . or visit our web site at www.tamarisstudy.com.

This research study is now underway throughout the United States, including the St. Louis area.

Today’s research touches our future . . . and there is a possibility that the information obtained in this study may help in the future development of a new therapy for those who suffer from Critical Limb Ischemia with foot and/or leg ulcers. For more information, please contact Hal Coxon at (847) 919-1005 or via email at halcoxon@axmarketing.com.

I was in Gas Mart earlier this month. I was talking on my cell when I walked in, I dropped my cell into my purse and went into the restroom. I then came out and bought $40 worth of merchandise and $25 worth of gas. As I was standing in line the cashier was talking to the couple in front of me about the girl in the store that was about to be arrested for shoplifting. I was looking around to see who it was. After the young couple left, I put my stuff on the counter to pay. I was approached by a Belleville cop. He asked me if I was hiding anything. I had never been in a situation like this before. I kept telling him I didn't take anything. The cashier kept yelling at me that I had. Other customers were coming and going and staring and pointing. I was humiliated. I knew I hadn't taken anything. Why would I buy $65 worth of gas/merchandise and steal a 50 cent candy bar?! They told me a female officer was on her way to search me. I had to lift my shirt up and show my waistband didn't have anything in it at the register. I then was told to empty my purse on the counter. I had to take everything and empty it onto the counter. The officer told the cashier, you were wrong and she kept yelling at me that I had taken something, where did I put it! I paid for my merchandise and left. On the way out the officer tells me, Have a great night ma'am! How embarassing. All week people I know have been calling to see what happened. So I called Gas mart. The manager Randy went on to defend the cashier. He sent me a $10 gift card and the worst apology letter I've ever seen. Talk about a slap in the face. I tell everyone now, DO NOT GO TO GAS MART. I have never been so humiliated, embarassed and scared before and all that is only worth $10 to them.

Madison County Shelted Care Home fights for survival (Edwardsville, Il)

One Last Try in Madison County.

Even though the Madison County Board voted in 2006 to set aside $5.3 million to build a new Madison County Sheltered Care home, "I've always said they haven't voted to spend the money yet," Local 799 President Gary Groeteka said. "In April they voted not to accept the lowest bid from a builder. They've sent a letter to residents and employees that they intend to close the home."

But no official 90-day notice has been given, as required by law. he noted.

Groeteka said that the county is worried that weakening levees along the river could lose federal certification, which would raise flood insurance rates for residents. The board has indicated it would use the sheltered care capitol as seed money to get funding for repairing the levees.

Family members and advocates for residents joined a May 21 informational picket line. And union members attended the April County Board meeting. The home has 26 AFSCME members on staff and 35 residents, down from 62 at its peak.

The union's next step is an advisory referendum on the November ballot that would give residents a chance to show support for keeping the Madison County Sheltered Care home open, Groeteka said. The local will work to collect the 6000 signatures needed to get the measure on the ballot.

"The board voted to close it 10 years ago," he recalled. "Since then there have been five ballot measures before the public, and two have passed. This is our last shot."

The Madison County Board has already SPENT about $385,000 for an architect (Collinsville-based AAIC Inc.) to draw up the plans. Read more

Dear government official,

There is a segment of our society that needs help. It’s young people, from 18-25 years old that haven’t established themselves with a good income, let alone health insurance. They are the one’s that have been involved in some type of accident that has left them paralyzed.
These young people need Medicaid/insurance that pays for rehab for at least three months. This costs around $30,000 per month. However, the benefits to our society in providing this care would be immeasurable.
My son received care after his injury that caused bedsores. About six months later his one month of rehab was literally bottom line—trying to get back what he had lost to inactivity in the hospital.
I also know that my son was not given any corrective surgery. His spine is damaged from c-4 to c-6, and others that are older and have insurance have had surgery and are now walking How many other SCI (spinal cord injury) young people are out there that are doomed to this life because of no insurance?
If society gives them the opportunity to get the rehab that they need then these young people could once again look toward a bright future that not only includes being productive, but in just being able to do the things that “normal” people take for granted like scratching an itch, blowing your nose, feeding one’s self or hugging your child. Cutting back on care for these young people dooms not only them, but society as a whole to supporting them for the rest of their lives.
We want to extend an opportunity to you to visit our son; to learn how he lives for a day; to see his and our family's daily struggles in dealing with this new way of life.
My son is 21 years old. He can’t do the things he loved to do like swimming, running, making his own breakfast or working on cars. He can’t pick up his little girl and “love on her” like he used to. Life as he knew it is gone and with the care he has received so far it’s gone forever. Please accept our invitation and find out what you can do to improve the quality of life for today’s SCI young people—the one’s our society once looked to for a bright future.
Contact us for a date and time that is agreeable. Email ladybyrd043@gmail.com to RSVP.
Sincerely,
Debby and David Kwiecien Sr.
And Troy, Jr.
