Lace Doilies. Two groups. Antique/Vintage Beauties with a Pedigree !
Yes, I know lace doilies may not be ‘fashion forward’ but something that America does very well is looking back in time for fashion inspiration- there is so much retro influence in apparel, home furnishings, graphic design, architecture - think about it ! Rediscovering the beauty and wonder of what our predecessors have done often permeates what we find as fresh and exciting.
There are two distinct groups of hand-made doilies dating from the earliest part of the last century, in all cases likely before 1930, based on what is known about the lives of our own ancestors who made these and handed them down.
The first group is just four pieces united by each being a different shade of ecru/off white/wheat/beige, or however you want to characterize such soft tones..
THESE 4 for $ 17. These four range in size from 9” to 11” across.
The second group is pure white, seven pieces in all; handmade, six different designs and one pair of ‘star-shaped’ doilies; the one in the upper left hand corner of the image has distinctly ‘lettuce’ or ruffled edges.
THESE 7 for $ 22 These seven range in size from 6 ½” to 11” across.
What I find amazing about all of them is how intricate, complex, and unique each design is. No one aesthetic prevails, except for their complex beauty. How did the makers of these come up with such amazing patterns ?
Certainly, placing them on dark backgrounds enhances all the beauty they have to offer; try them on any surface, either on flat places like tables, desks, shelves, etc. or even on walls - imagine them pinned delicately to any dark wall - you will be pleased with how they stand out. We’ve used them to great benefit on walls, ourselves.
Or frame them in a well-matted picture frame !
BUY THEM ALL for just $ 35
