These cards themselves are every bit as vibrant and beautiful as the rugs they depict; the cards are not flimsy paper but are a very substantial card stock. Each packet is priced separately, below
Those who love Oriental Rugs might want to consider these for framing, for mailing, for handing out, for gifting, for guides to shopping for rugs, or for other visual enjoyments.
We have been so very fortunate to travel to so many exotic and interesting places with the two named countries in the posting headline being among them. Visits to these two took place in 2008 and included seeing many gorgeous carpets………EVERYWHERE ! Homes, businesses, mosques, offices, street vendors, in 'just a few' carpet stores - just about any indoor or outdoor space !
The tradition of weaving rugs is truly worldwide - on all inhabited continents but the Middle East, South Asia, and mainland China are the areas one thinks of most often in this realm.
CARPET or RUG ? In the U.S. we speak of ‘Oriental Rugs’ but in most of the countries of origin they say ‘Carpet’, without the ‘oriental’ part because that is their home. Think “magic carpet” or “flying carpet”. I have a spatial theory on why the difference exists but that’s not for this posting.
Each of these two countries has its own national museum of rugs and we visited each. While there we purchased these packs of cards with an eye towards framing them for display; some of those framed ones are still hanging in our home. Each card in both groups has FULL DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION on its reverse side.

A Selection of Carpets from the Carpet Museum of Iran. Located beside Laleh Park in Tehran, the Carpet Museum of Iran was established by the order of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi in 1976 to exhibit a variety of Persian carpets from all over Iran. The museum's exhibition hall occupies 3,400 square metres and its library contains approximately 7,000 books.
AZERBAIJAN Full pack of 24 for $ 22 Each card measures 6 ¼” x 9”
A selection of six cards are shown in photos 5 & 6. All 24 are stunning.
The last photo in the series needs explaining. The Azeri museum had run out of the color printed covers for their packets so some enterprising staff person photo-copied the last one. Nice …. but the cards carry the beauty and they're all in the packet.
A Selection of Carpets from the Carpet Museum of the Republic of Azerbaijan which is a transcontinental and landlocked country at the boundary of West Asia and Eastern Europe. It is a part of the South Caucasus region and is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia's republic of Dagestan to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. Baku is the capital and largest city.
