The seller made this photo on a trip to the West African country of Mali, a “no-go” zone now due to strife between warring factions. The earrings are a distinctive Fulani cultural identifying factor and Fulani women proudly wear these earrings and readily show them off to interested visitors; some even will stand for photos, as this lady did.
The photo for sale is only the first image shown; the other two are from online to give additional views of Fulani ladies.
The Fulani are a large and diverse group of people primarily found in West and Central Africa. They are known for their nomadic and semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle, raising cattle, and for their strong faith.
Fulani earrings are a powerful symbol of wealth, status, and cultural identity. The size and craftsmanship of the earrings often reflect the wearer's social standing and their family's affluence. These earrings, historically made from gold or occasionally gold-plated bronze, are a significant part of Fulani heritage and are often worn for special occasions like weddings and ceremonies.
The 8 ½” x 11” photo is offered unframed and is in perfect condition - glossy finish, no scratches or bent corners or stains of any sort. Given the vibrant gold color of the earrings the photo would look beautiful in a frame with a strong golden appearance.
