Humorous antique print, an interior scene, by American artist, Toby Edward Rosenthal (1848-1917). Rosenthal was born in the U.S. and died in Germany. Scene depicting a cardinal, dressed in traditional red garb, sitting for his portrait, while the artist, a monk, looks frustrated because the cardinal has fallen asleep, but the monk portrays the cardinal at his best, looking quite grand and noble. Signed in the lower right: Toby E. Rosenthal.
Print was found on local estate and is in very good condition.
There's a small notch on the bottom (see picture).
Measures 23.5" x 18.25" with frame 27.5" x 22.5".
