Yes, the country we knew simply as ‘Turkey’ has adapted its name to Türkiye to better reflect how it is pronounced in the Turkish language and to disassociate it from the can-be-disparaging name of our Thanksgiving dinner bird.

This item hung on the walls of a modest home in Harran when the seller was there in 2010. The photos after the first one show a view of entering the settlement itself as well as the interior of a home, whose decor shows how the wall hanging fit right into that design stye. It has six identical segments with a specialized center medallion. It is 11" across.

Harran is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Türkeye. Harran was founded at some point between the 25th and 20th centuries BC, possibly as a merchant colony by Sumerian traders from Ur. Over the course of its early history, Harran rapidly grew into a major Mesopotamian cultural, commercial and religious center.

It is approximately 40 kilometres southeast of the famous biblical town of Urfa and 20 kilometres from the Syrian border crossing at Akçakale.Because of its association with Jewish, Christian, and Islamic history, and a legend according to which it was the hometown of Abraham, Urfa is nicknamed the "City of Prophets.”

Today, for geopolitical reasons, this area of Türkiye can be a difficult place to visit. The seller was there in 2010 and saw fascinating insights into its cultural background.
