Antique Washboard - cleaning clothes the hard way !
As you might guess - family heirloom, early 20th century, the seller can still recall his mother using this not for ‘regular’ dirty items but only for seriously dirty fabric, when the ‘new-fangled’ wringer-type washing machine didn’t do the job.
Using these was hard - hard on the fabric, hard on the hands and arms of the user, and hard on the expectations - it often still left some stain in the fabric.
17 ½’ long/tall and 8 ½ “ wide. Very good condition for its age - no splinters, no cracked wood, and firm in its frame.
Two photos of my washboard and the third photo shows the usually nutty prices from online resale sites.
