> The Hacker Boat Company, established in 1908, holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest manufacturer of wooden power boats. Since its inception, the company has achieved numerous racing wins and accolades. John Hacker, the founder of Hacker Boat Company, was a renowned naval architect and is widely regarded as the greatest motorboat designer of the 20th century. Hacker’s significant contributions include the invention of the “V”-hull design and the floating biplane for the Wright brothers. His speedcraft designs surpassed those of all other builders combined. Hacker’s boats were renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, which continues to be highly sought after worldwide to this day.

> We are delighted to present this magnificent 1948 Hacker Craft Triple Cockpit 22-foot runabout. Named “Misbehavin,” this boat was exceptionally special when it was new and cost more than twice the price of a fully loaded Chevrolet of the time. The unique deep V hull design of Hacker Crafts enabled the boat to reach speeds exceeding 50 miles per hour, all while ensuring safety. At the time of its launch, this speed was remarkable for a pleasure boat, and it remains highly respectable even today. The combination of the hull design and plush seating provides a remarkably comfortable ride, even in rough waters.

> The Hacker Craft you see here is hull #22489, which underwent a meticulous full restoration. The construction features white oak framing with Mahogany planking. During the restoration, the double planked hull bottom was sealed with 3M 5200 Marine Sealant and then coated in multiple layers of epoxy paint to create a “no soak” hull bottom. The sides, decks, floor, and other surfaces were covered in 18 coats of Interlux Varnish, resulting in a mirror-like finish. All this hard work ensures that the boat’s future owners will enjoy low maintenance ownership.

> One of the boat’s unique features is its original two-tone wood deck option. The chrome-plated brass hardware adorns the boat and is in excellent condition. The interior is trimmed in the finest Corinthian leathers, and the seats are filled with spring-cushioned foam, providing a comfortable ride and support for all sizes. The beautifully finished mahogany floors are protected by custom-fitted vinyl floor mats. The banjo steering wheel rim is made from solid cherry, and the column-mounted shifter enhances floor space and legroom, a feature commonly found in Hacker Crafts boats.

> Power is provided by a 1954 Chrysler Marine Hemi V8 engine, which has undergone a complete rebuild and includes upgrades such as Hot Heads aluminum intake and valley cover. This engine now produces over 300 horsepower on pump gas and is highly reliable. The transmission is a matching hydraulic unit from Chrysler Marine and features forward, neutral, and reverse gears. Other notable features include a chrome Valite remote spotlight, under-seat storage, a modern blower, and bilge pumps for safety. Additionally, the boat has a 12-volt electrical system, Stewart Warner gauges in an engine-turned dash, and dual split windshields.
>
> The boat is transported on a specially built Roadrunner trailer, constructed in 2010. This trailer is equipped with Kodiak disc brakes, aluminum wheels, bearing buddies, diamond plate steps, and LED lighting. The boat also comes with a custom-fitted cover, dock lines, and a life vest. If you have any questions about this incredible vessel, The Boat sets on a lift on grand lake over the water with a fully automatic custom cover. The boat had a stereo and GPS added and a few scratches removed by Howard’s classic boats as well as many new coats of varnish which really was not needed . More pictures available.
