As a player he was a 3rd baseman initially with the Orioles. But most of his career was spent with the Giants. He had a lifetime batting average of .334.
As a manager for the NY Giants, he won ten pennants including three World Series. A feat matched only by Casey Stengel of the NY Yankees.
Only Connie Mack who managed the Philadelphia Athletics the first fifty years of the team's existence (1901-1950) had more wins.
