THE HISTORY:
SS Admiral was an excursion steamboat operating on the Mississippi River from the Port of St. Louis. The vessel had a 1930s streamlined, Art Deco style, similar to the MV Kalakala and in contrast to the
"gingerbread" ornamentation of more traditional Mississippi passenger and pleasure steamers.
Built at : Dubuque, IA. Date of completion: 1907
• 1907 Named: ALBATROS for the Louisiana & Mississippi Valley Transfer Co. and operated at Vicksburg, MS.
• 1937 Sold to Streckfus Steamers
• 1940 Rebuilt with $1,000,000. Art Deco steel skin, ALL air-conditioned for 4,400 passengers, Renamed: ADMIRAL
• 1974 Converted to diesel propulsion
• 1981 Sold to Pittsburgh businessfor its diesel engines and sold the ship to Pinnacle Entertainment in St. Louis
• 1987 Reopened as an entertainment center managed by Six Flags Corp.
• 1979 Hull weakness discovered by the Coast Guard led to the banishment from cruising the river.
• 1994 Refashioned as the President Casino.
• 2010 Sold to St. Louis Marine concluding her colorful life.
