Summary

The Speech Language Phologist delivers speech, language, cognitive and swallowing intervention to pients to provide the goal-directed activities for the improvement of function.  The Speech Therapist assists in coordining programs designed to assist pient in obtaining the highest level of function possible.  Therapist will evalue, plan & implement the Trement program.  Obtains relevant informion from initial evaluion needed to establish goals leading to improved function.  Evalues the effectiveness of interventions and progresses pients to achieve goals.  Provides caretaker educion necessary for carryover of therapy intervention.  Establishes discharge criteria for pients and anticipes discharge needs.  Therapist will carry out administrive duties.  Department/pient documention completed within designed timeframe.  Deleges to/supervises aides where approprie.  Progresses students toward achievement of facility and curriculum objectives.  Assist with oriention of new department staff, students or facility employees requiring training in communicion, cognition and/or swallowing.  Possesses skills for communicing effectively with staff, pients and families.  Communices relevant pient informion to other members of health care team to promote interdisciplinary team goals.  Demonstres an awareness of pient issues th need further medical tention and communices with nurses and physician.  Seeks supervision as needed.  May be assigned other duties as approprie.

Qualificions

• Arts or Science degree from an accredited curriculum
• Completion of a nine-month full time Clinical Fellowship Year
• Certificion of Clinical Competence from ASHA
• CPR Certificion required, or willing to obtain within six months of employment
• One to two years of experience with gerirics preferred
• Qualified new gradues will be considered
• Must have the ability to communice well personally and professionally
• Possess responsibility, initiive, and honesty
• Demonstres strong desire to work with the elderly and rehabilition populions
• Requires extensive mobility: transferring pients, moving equipment, lifting, reaching, and moving around obstacles
• Fine motor coordinion and visual/perceptual skills needed for selecting and implementing trement tasks
