Vivid colors - crisp execution of shape and tone - historical cultures !
These figures have been staples of Asian pottery art for centuries. The stoneware figures depicted people found in the towns and countrysides of Japan and China and a few other Asian nations. Figures were made of common laborers, emperors, scholars, water carriers, business people, monks, and so many more occupations. These figures can be found in many sizes, some smaller, some larger - ours is a generous 12” tall.
This figure is in excellent conditon - no chips, cracks, breaks or any other defects. I bought it in a shop near the Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong in 1976, my first trip to Asia.
The bottom of the figure has a felt pad on the bottom to protect any surface you may sit it on.
The beautiful Chinese silk embroidery piece shown with the figure is also available for just $ 12.
