This beautiful gem is Cobalto Calcite Drusy. This is a natural gemstone from Africa and is also called Cobaltoan. This is a pink variety of calcite. It is a popular collector's stone because of the pink color caused by cobalt. It is from the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre). This gem is an interesting piece with pink drusy crystals mixed in with other minerals. It has a natural uneven surface of crystals and other minerals so it requires extra care because it is delicate. This gem can be found in various shades of pink from light to hot pink and light salmon to darker salmon. The weight of this gemstone is 18.33 carats. This gem measures 24.02 x 15.88 mm which is about .95 x .63 inch. This gemstone has formed in the earth. Sometimes natural formation can leave fractures so it is protected with hardeners. I have hand set this gemstone in this oxidized solid .925 sterling silver pendant that is marked on the back. Also included is a 20 inch .925 sterling silver chain.
