Monopods provide great stability when tripods are too bulky, too heavy, or not allowed in certain venues. As an aside, they can also provide walking stability on difficult terrain until you get to your shooting site. It is also helpful when shooting on a moving base, i.e. on a vessel on water.

Carbon fiber provides strong but lightweight support. This monopod uses magnesium alloy components and 8X layer carbon fiber tubing which is 60% stronger overall than conventional carbon fiber tubing. The monopod can hold up to 39.6 lb, weighs 1.2 lb, and can extend from 20.3" to 62.6".

Included in the sale price is a small but steady Joby ballhead to hold your camera, spotting scope, or other viewing device firmly onto the monopod. The ballhead is great for creative camera positioning including full 360° panning and 90° for portrait mode style. It adds only 9.3 oz to the overall weight of your monopod when it sits on top.

It has an X-shaped mounting plate which accepts Arco-style (Arca-Swiss) tripod mounting plates, the industry standard for quick-release systems.
