Rebuilt MEL 383 with C6 transmission. The Ford MEL is a big-block 90° V8 engine family produced in various configurations by the Ford Motor Company between 1958 and 1967 in displacements from 383–462 cubic inches (6.3–7.6 L), and used in Ford, Edsel, Mercury, and Lincoln vehicles.
The 383 cu in (6.3 L; 6,282 cc) Marauder was the smallest member of the family. Produced from 1958 through 1960, it was only used in Mercury vehicles. It used a 4.30 in × 3.30 in (109.2 mm × 83.8 mm) bore and stroke. Output began at 312 or 330 hp (233 or 246 kW), both with a four-barrel carburetor. The 322 hp (240 kW) was the only output for 1959, and power dropped to 280 hp (209 kW) for the final year.
This was in a project vehicle I purchased recently. I have decided to go with another route with the project. The previous owner was very meticulous with the entire project and was selling due to health reasons. He had rebuilt the engine and it was fully running and driving when removed. These are rare engines and I cant find another for sale in other than core condition. This would be great for a hotrod if you wanted something unique or for a restoration of a classic needing a new engine. I have video of it running before it was removed.
