education completed: bachelors

I’m a recent grad with a good education and employment history (so far since I’m only 25) I worked in an office for the past couple of years and know I don’t want to do this the rest of my life. Long story short I am looking to become a firefighter.

From what I have researched, it seems my best chances are to become EMT certified and then volunteer as a firefighter to network. I’ve also been told that it’s nearly impossible to become one if you don’t know someone in the industry. Can someone give me some insight or an experience so I can approach this career the right way or decide to not pursue it all. I was also planning on going up to my local fire house but I’m not sure how that is viewed. Any advice is helpful. Thank you.
